Ferrule Street Bakery Puts Its Autumn Menu Behind a Velvet Rope; Nobody Allowed to Eat It
Fish, dumplings, a whole chicken and a tower of yellow cake, all on red lacquer. All for looking at.

The bakery on Ferrule Street has unveiled its autumn menu, which this year includes two whole fish, a roast chicken, a bowl of dumplings, a stack of yellow cake, persimmons and something nobody has been able to identify, all laid out on round red tables.
It is behind a velvet rope. Customers may look at the menu for as long as they like. They may not eat it.
The bakery says this is “the most beautiful thing we have ever made” and that it would be a shame to let anyone near it. Bread, rolls and the usual buns are still for sale at the counter, in the ordinary way.
The bakery cat was found on Wednesday morning sitting inside the rope next to the fish. She has been asked to leave. She has not.
Mrs. Odile from the library says she visited twice, read the labels, and found them “very well written, for a bakery.”

Please stop asking how much the chicken is. The chicken is not for sale. The chicken is for everyone.
