About Dobuki News
The newspaper of Skydale, in a world very much like yours, minus one thing.
Dobuki News is the newspaper of Skydale, in a world very much like yours, with one difference and one exception.
The difference: nobody here ever built a machine that thinks. We have trolls, a wizard who is currently floating, a forest we would rather not discuss, and a perfectly good library. We write our own letters. When we get something wrong, we know exactly whose fault it is.
The exception: every television here, for reasons nobody has ever explained, shows your world. We call it the Set. You are on it all day. We watch you the way you watch nature programmes, with affection, some alarm and snacks. Everything we report under “From the Other Side” we saw there.
One of you used to be one of us. Years ago a witch sent a Skydale boy called Vincent through to your side, and he has been there ever since, writing songs. Over here they are hits, and they are also, more often than not, the news before it happens. The Dobuki 10, our weekly chart, is his songs and nobody else’s. The chart committee would like it known that this is a coincidence.
Everything on our side of the screen is made up. The stories from your side come with links.
