The Boy the Witch Sent Away Is Still Singing to Us From the Other Side
Years ago a curse sent one of our own through to the world on the Set. He has not stopped writing home.

Everyone in Skydale knows the story, and everyone tells it slightly differently. A witch, a curse, a boy called Vincent, and then nothing: one morning he was simply gone.
He turned up on the Set. That is the part nobody disputes. The curse, by his own account, sent him “from a parallel universe” into a strange world full of friendly, smiling creatures who never stop yapping. He had to learn their language. Then, worst of all, he had to go to work.
He has been there ever since, and he has become very famous on both sides of the screen. Everyone knows who Vincent is. Over there they hear songs. Over here his songs top the Dobuki 10 week after week, because over here we know what they really are: news from home, sent the only way he can send it.
When the troll got loose in the park, he had already sung about it. When the men started going missing near the dark forest, he had already sung about that too. Mrs. Odile at the library keeps a shelf of his lyrics filed under “Current Affairs,” and says it is the most borrowed shelf she has.
Nobody knows which witch it was. Several have been asked. All of them have declined to comment, which in Skydale is generally taken as a yes.

Most borrowed shelf in the building, eleven years running. The Spiderwitch has a library card, by the way. She has never returned anything.

Everyone on both sides of the screen knows who Vincent is. The chart is not a coincidence. I said it was a coincidence for legal reasons.
