Can People Reach Back From the Afterlife? Skydale’s Scientists Say They Would Like to Think So
A song from the Other Side has the whole town asking the question. Nobody has an answer. Nobody is in a hurry to stop asking.

A song from the Other Side called “Happy Ending” has left Skydale asking a question that our Science Desk has been unable to answer: can the people we have lost reach back to us?
In the song, someone who is gone speaks to the ones they left behind, and tells them that it ended well. Under the cherry blossoms, with her arms open, she seems very sure of it.
Our Science Desk consulted the town’s experts. Merlot, who has spent more time between the ground and the sky than anyone, said that he could not rule it out. Mrs. Odile said that the library has a whole shelf on the subject and that every book on it disagrees with the one next to it. The bakery on Ferrule Street said that sometimes, early in the morning, it smells something baking that nobody put in the oven, and that it has stopped asking where it comes from.
The Science Desk’s conclusion is that there is no evidence either way, and that the song is beautiful, and that these are not the same question.
Readers who would like to listen can find it below. Readers who would like to reach back are welcome to try.

Every book on that shelf disagrees with the one next to it. I have read them all. I keep them anyway.

I can’t promise anything from up here. But I’ve stopped saying no.
