The Spiderwitch Has Been Seen in the Forests of Transylvania. Skydale Asks Whether She Has Left
Same hat, same staff, same web between the trees. Sergeant Pell says he is “cautiously relieved.”

The woman Skydale knows as the Spiderwitch, blamed for the disappearance of several men near the dark forest north of town, has been seen on the Other Side, in the forests of Transylvania.
Viewers recognised her at once: the tall hat, the long silver hair, the staff, and the web strung between the trees behind her. She was singing. It is the same song the one man who came back from the dark forest says he heard before he was invited into a bed made entirely of spider web.
The question in town is whether she has moved. Sergeant Pell says he is “cautiously relieved” and that men should still not walk alone near the dark forest, “because a witch can be in two places, and so can a spider.”
Merlot, who is still floating and therefore has the best view of the forest, reports that the web is still there, but that nobody seems to be home.
The men of Transylvania have been advised.
